Blood Tests

At Lemala Health, we offer a range of blood tests to support your overall health and menopause care.

During midlife, symptoms such as tiredness, low mood, poor concentration or reduced energy are not always caused by hormones alone.

Low levels of iron (ferritin), vitamin B12, vitamin D and an under active thyroid are relatively common and may cause similar symptoms to menopause.

Menopause is a great opportunity for a general health screen to ensure your cholesterol and diabetic levels are also optimised for long-term health.

Please note: prices above cover your blood test and a detailed results report. Blood sample taking is paid separately to Nationwide Pathology, the blood taking service we have partnered with.

Not everyone will need blood tests as part of their menopause care. During your consultation, we take the time to understand your symptoms, medical history and overall health, and will recommend any tests if they are needed.

If you are new to Lemala Health:

The best place to start is by booking an appointment. We can then discuss whether blood tests would be helpful as part of your care.

If you are an existing patient:

If you have been advised to arrange blood tests (for example ahead of your next appointment or as part of ongoing monitoring), please get in touch using our contact form and we will organise this for you.

If you have a particular test in mind, or would prefer a more comprehensive screen, just let us know and we can arrange this for you.

Blood Test FAQs

    • We use a private blood test provider, called Nationwide Pathology, they can be contacted on 01858 571322.

    • They will help you choose how to get your sample taken and take this fee. There are various options:

    • A healthcare professional can visit your home of office - approx £60.

    • Visit one of the many clinics near around the country - approx £40.

    • Arrange a home kit to be sent to you, this means you can find your own phlebotomist. Good option if friends/ family who are medical - approx £25.

    • Blood tests are not usually needed to diagnose perimenopause or menopause.

    • You may wish to read our guide on the perimenopause.

    • Women don’t always need a blood test. We may sometimes recommend a blood test to check for other medical conditions.

    • If you are already on HRT, and your symptoms aren’t improving, a blood test can help guide your treatment.

    • If considering starting testosterone replacement therapy - you will need a baseline testosterone blood test before starting treatment, followed by tests at 3 then 12 months. If your levels are high at any point, we may recommend a repeat level.

    • If you are under 40, and experiencing symptoms, a blood test can be helpful as part of considering Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI).

    • Please do not worry about which blood test, or whether this is needed, we will help you during your appointment.

    • We are trying to make our service as accessible as possible.

    • We accept blood test results from both the NHS and private providers, as long as the sample is taken from a vein (not finger prick).

    • Please do not send us your results in advance, we will discuss them during your appointment.

    • You can ask your GP if they will take your blood test for you, but they are not under any obligation to do so.

    • On the day of your blood test, please omit the application of your testosterone or oestrogen gel until after the blood sample has been taken.

    • If you use an oestrogen patch, this can remain in place.

    • Your blood test results will be reviewed by a Lemala Health clinician. We will usually contact you by email within 2 weeks of your blood test being taken.

    • If results are clinically significant or require earlier follow-up, we may contact you sooner using the contact details held on your medical record.

    • If you have not heard from us within 2 weeks, please contact us by email so we can ensure we have received your results.

    • No, I am afraid this service is only available for existing patients.

    • This is for your safety, as we require some information about you to be able to report on your results.
